1860's $10 DIX note, Citizen's Bank of Louisiana New Orleans |
PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ | Over the years we have seen a few of the famous "Dix" notes, but none as nice as this example! Legend has it that the riverboat men came down the Mississippi and encountered these notes printed in both English and French with the prominent "Dix" (French for ten) and these notes became known as Dixies. The country north of New Orleans became known as the land of the Dixies and later simply "Dixie Land". Voted note number 86 in the Bowers and Sundman book, "The 100 Greatest American Currency Notes", this note has been given the PMG distinction of Exceptional Paper Quality. |

PMG Choice Uncirculated 64, Gem Uncirculated 65 and Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ | Fr. 855a. S/N C95742381A, C95742382A, C95742383A, C95742384A. Finding a nice cut sheet can be a tough endeavor these days. This beautifully original cut sheet of 1914 Five Dollar notes are bright and gracefully margined. The lone 64 is centered slightly low preventing the Gem grade, however, the other notes are well balanced and inviting. Finding a sheet with better quality, however, would be an admirable challenge. All have been designated by PMG as having Exceptional Paper Quality! |

PMG Choice Uncirculated 64, Gem Uncirculated 65 and Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ | This interesting consecutive run of eight Silver Certificates from the 1923 series has more than just nice high-grade certified notes. This group also contains two changeover pairs. The first three consecutive notes are all Fr. 237, the next note in the run is Fr. 238 making the first changeover. Then after the four consecutive Fr. 238s, the last note in sequence is a Fr. 237 making up a reverse changeover. All these notes are beautifully original with deep rich embossing sharp inks and razor sharp corners. Out of the eight notes only one of them did not achieve the Gem grade. All eight notes bear the "exceptional paper quality: designation by PMG! Grades are as follows: (3) PMG66EPQ, (4) PMG65EPQ and (1) PMG64EPQ |

Their mystique lingers in spite of the debasement in America's money since we went off the gold standard. |
